Many people are surprised to learn that the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport has it’s own jail. The fact that you don’t know it has a jail is probably a good thing. So, how does someone end up in the DFW Airport Jail? Several ways, actually. Here are a few.
- Apparently, the upscale stores in the terminal are just too tempting for some to handle and they decide to try to take a souvenir home. The shops in the terminal carry high end items such as sunglasses, electronics, travel accessories, etc. and are equipped to watch for shoplifting. According to the staff at the airport jail, this is a frequent occurrence and one of the most common ways people end up in their jail. Perhaps they don’t think someone is watching, or maybe being from another state or country, they don’t know how closely they are being watched. Regardless, if you want new sunglasses, be sure to purchase them.
- Possession of marijuana or a controlled substance. The fact that marijuana is legal in other states is causing some issues for people who travel to Texas. Forgot that you left that in your bag? It’s still illegal here and will get you arrested if found.
- Carrying a weapon through security. Obviously, most people know you aren’t supposed to carry a gun on the plane anymore. However, accidents happen and people forget that they have some sort of prohibited weapon in their bag. I know it sounds crazy, but we do live in Texas and handguns are common….so is forgetfulness.
- Driving through the airport. DFW airport covers almost 27 square miles and over 17,000 acres. It is larger than the island of Manhattan. People use the roadways to cut through from north to south all the time. Any traffic stop can result in arrest for other offenses and warrants.
DFW Airport is the 11th busiest airport in the world in terms of passengers and has approximately 60,000 employees. With that many people coming and going, there are many ways to get in trouble. There is some good news. In our experience, the staff at the DFW Airport Jail is one of the most professional around. We have bonded many individuals out of the DFW Jail that have called us directly from the jail.
If you know someone that has been arrested and in the DFW Airport jail, please give us a call. We can help bond them out and make sure they know what will be required of them in the future.
